Situated between Atlanta and the Blue Ridge Mountains lies the city of Canton. Located near the middle of Cherokee County, which is the fastest-growing county in Georgia, Canton is growing fast as well.
But fast growth doesn’t mean irresponsible growth here, as the City is working hard to improve infrastructure and connecting the downtown with the Etowah River via a network of trails. At the same time, the city’s history and architecture are being preserved through careful restoration. The Canton Main Street Program was established in 2010, and in the last two years alone has restored over 300,000 square feet of historical buildings such as the textile mill, former schools, and the Jones Mercantile. It’s no wonder that Georgia Trend Magazine gave Canton the distinction of being one of 2019’s LIVE, WORK, PLAY communities.
Don’t be alarmed if visiting Canton for the first time gives you a feeling of déjà vu, as there’s a logical explanation for that. If you’ve seen the movies Hangman, If Loving You is Wrong, or Hidden Figures, you’ve seen parts of Canton.
And there’s no need to be bored here – from the excellent shopping and dining choices to the live music, festivals, car shows, and more, there’s something for the whole family. From May through August on the third Saturday, take in one of the Canton River Rock Concerts at the Etowah River Park Amphitheater. Or there’s First Fridays from May through October, when downtown Canton comes alive with a car show and live music, as food trucks provide sustenance for all that dancing. Or for a diverse and fun shopping experience, check out the Farmer’s Market in Cannon Park.
With careful planning and restoration, excellent amenities and a variety of entertaining things to do, Canton really is a great place to live, work, and play.
