Many Americans nearing retirement are feeling less sure than they did before.

Among people ages 50 to 85, 1 in 3 say they feel less confident about their retirement than they did a year ago. And 2 in 5 aren’t sure they will have enough money to live comfortably through retirement. For those who haven’t retired yet, that number is even higher—nearly half feel uncertain.

It’s not just about confidence—it’s about how people feel day to day. 44% say they feel more anxious about their finances than they did a year ago. And those who are still working are twice as likely to feel very anxious compared to those already retired.

This reflects a deeper concern: many people are not sure if they’ll be able to retire when they planned—or if their money will last once they do.
